Product Design Summer Camp 2017
Product Design Summer Camp 2017
(03/07/17 – 14/07/17)
Programme Summary
During the last decades the global tendencies in Product Design are heading towards the understanding of the actual consumer needs and the creative incorporation of these requirements in the design of innovative products. For this reason, it is deemed necessary to adopt an integral approach to the development of new products, and more specifically a multidimensional strategy that considers entrepreneurial, mechanical, and design related skills and competences. The participants will have the chance to develop their knowledge and expertise in design, digital representation (Rhino 3D), packaging, as well as the use of cutting-edge machinery such as 3D printers and laser cutters for the production of artefacts of high specifications. The aforementioned specifications ought to combine functionality, economy, entrepreneurship and of course high aesthetic qualities. Considering the above requirements, an interdisciplinary team of academics and design professionals will offer lectures and project guidance transmitting their knowledge and experience in the ever-growing field of product design. The high level of teaching by internationally acclaimed academics and professionals, coupled with the technological infrastructure at the International Hellenic University of Thessaloniki guarantee the success of the programme and aspire to equip the participants with a valuable experience for their further development in the field.
The aim of this 2-week intensive Summer Camp is to make the participants better acquainted with aspects of Product Design by providing up-to-date knowledge and an overview of the latest developments in the field. In the course of the programme, the latest research on product design along with state-of-the-art CAD/CAE/CAM techniques coupled with a design-oriented approach, will be presented by senior academics and award winning designers who are experts in their relevant fields, combining theory and praxis in a hands-on approach.

Course Credits
A Certificate of Attendance will be provided at the end of the program to all participants who have fulfilled the course requirements. Students/graduates taking the course for credit at their home institutions will also have to deliver an oral presentation on the last day of the Summer Camp and a written documentation of all stages of the Product Design Summer Camp (in pdf format) in order to obtain 4 ECTS credits. Since degree requirements vary among universities, students/graduates are advised to ensure, preferably in advance, that their college or university will recognize such certification and award the suggested credits.
In order to receive the certificate, participants should attend at least 90% of the seminars, ie. they should not be absent for more than 4 hours. An absence rate of more than 10% of the course duration automatically leads to failing the course. In this case, no tuition fees are returned.
