An interesting book by Dr Manolis Manoledakis | Ass. Prof. of Classical Archaeology | IHU - School of Humanities | International Hellenic University/Διεθνές Πανεπιστήμιο της Ελλάδος The most remarkable characteristic of the rivers of Halkidiki that were mentioned by ancient authors is that some of them suffered various misunderstandings and distortions. European cartographers of the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries as well as some of their contemporary European and Greek travellers of Halkidiki are responsible for these misunderstandings. In this book, there is an attempt to examine the history and the reasons behind these misunderstandings, by pinpointing the first maps and texts that constituted each of their steps, and also to re-identify correctly the rivers, according to the ancient sources.
