The Gift of Gods: Music in Ancient Greece

Nikolaos Koumartzis, IHU’s MSc Strategic Product Design alumni, is the founder of Luthieros Music Instruments (http://en.luthieros.com/), a start-up business that in the midst of the Greek financial crisis managed to start selling prototypes of ancient Greek instruments to musicians all over the globe! So far, Luthieros’ ‘ancient’ instruments were sent to many countries such as the USA, Canada, Chile, Brazil, Japan, Taiwan, Great Britain, Germany, China, Australia, Spain etc..

The ongoing R&D project behind “Luthieros Music Instruments” was partially developed in IHU’s 3D Labs. Using 3D scanning and 3D digital modelling techniques, Nikolaos Koumartzis coordinated the production of the first working prototypes of the ancient Greek lyre. Following his graduation from IHU, he managed to evolve this novel product design project, with the help of his father Anastasios (a well-experienced luthier), in a renown niche brand that exports these ancient Greek instruments all over the world, with receiving great reviews by well-known musicians.
