On Monday, 4 April 2011, the IHU and the German Hellenic Commercial and Industrial Chamber of Commerce co-organised a working meeting entitled “Cooperation between the University and Companies, a Prerequisite for Development”. The event was attended by the Mayor of Thessaloniki, Mr. Ioannis Boutaris, who made opening remarks.
After welcoming the participants, representatives of the scientific and business community of Thessaloniki, the Vice Chairman of the IHU, Professor Nicolas Moussiopoulos presented the educational and research activities of the University, placing emphasis on the international orientation of the University. Professor Rudolf Schilling, until recently the Vice President of the Technical University of Munich, followed with a speech on the multifaceted connection of the University with Industry.
Dr. Stergios Leventis, Lecturer at the IHU, the described the ways in which scientists and students of the IHU cooperate with companies and organizations in the private and public sectors. In the ensuing discussion, the importance of broadening cooperation between universities and industry was stressed, especially at this difficult time in Greece, as was the potential of deepening relations with technologically leading countries, such as Germany, aiming at stimulating innovation and bolstering entrepreneurship.
