In preparation for the new postgraduate programme on "Energy Systems» (MSc in Energy Systems) of the School of Science and Technology, starting in October 2010, the International Hellenic University organised a Conference on "Green Energy Issues” on Friday, November 27, 2009 at 18.30 at the University's Auditorium.
Main aim of the ConferenceIn a period marked by an unprecedented economic crisis, energy sector specialists and the general public focus their attention on the growing environmental and energy problems that require immediate resolution. The energy requirements of modern economies were built at a time when the efficiency of fossil fuels, energy conservation and protection for the environment were not a particular concern for societies. These are no longer viable nowadays. Modern societies and scientific communities are looking for a radically different development model that combines energy efficiency with environment protection. The purpose of the Conference was to discuss issues concerning "green energy", a key element of a development model, where economic growth, social cohesion and environmental protection exist harmonically. The Conference hosted presentations from eminent scientists and managers of the Greek energy market key agencies, contributing to the ongoing public debate between the scientific community and public authorities. In addition, the School of Science and Technology Dean presented for the first time the new postgraduate programme on "Energy Systems" (MSc in Energy Systems), starting in October 2010.
