Bitcoin + Blockchain: how they are changing our world

Bitcoin + Blockchain: how they are changing our world

Tuesday, October 3, 2017, 18:00-21:00

International Hellenic University

Scope: The emergence of bitcoin as a popular digital currency in 2009 has revolutionized the financial world, as it provides a secure way of performing financial transactions in a completely decentralized way without the need of a trusted third party. Regardless of whether digital currencies will eventually replace traditional currencies, there is no doubt that the blockchain, which is the underlying technology over which bitcoin “runs”, has unlocked a new world of exciting and innovative applications in multiple domains (finance, business, insurance) by also leveraging the explosion of mobile technologies.

In this event, we ask an exceptional group of invited speakers from academia and industry to provide their expertise on the design, evolution and actual implementation of current and future applications of bitcoin and blockchain technologies, covering technical as well as entrepreneurial aspects of the problem. Targeting an audience of university students/graduates as well as other members of the ICT, mobile and financial industry, our goal is to dispel some of the common myths regarding bitcoin/blockchain and point out challenges and opportunities that a bitcoin/blockchain entrepreneur and researcher must face in a rapidly evolving global environment.

Attendance is free to students, young ICT professionals, mobile developers, the general public and all those who wish to become familiar with the exciting world of bitcoin and the blockchain architecture and applications. Prior free registration is required.

Scientific Coordination: Prof. Georgios Evangelidis, Dean, School of Science and Technology.

The working language of the event is English and Greek.
